MSRP: $29.99
Mash: undisclosed KY bourbon mashbills
Proof: 93
Age: 60% 5yr, 20% 10yr, 16% 12yr, 4% 17yr finished in apple brandy for up to 3yrs
Nose: crisp green apple, caramel, hibiscus, red currant, tobacco
Palate: the nose feels like it is apple brandy forward, but the palate switches it up. The front of the palate greets you with classic KY bourbon. Caramel and vanilla, a subtle pepper spice, leather, and some aged tobacco. The mid to back palate sees the return of the green apple and red currant with a hint of floral hibiscus
Finish: medium to short finish that feels a little thin, but leather and apple are the dominant notes here and very enjoyable
Rating: Hoard it (Out of Hoard, Buy, Try, Pass)
Thoughts: This may not be an amazing pour, but it is a damn good pour. And the kicker? The value may be one of the absolute best in bourbon. This costs less than half what the old label iteration of this release cost. If you like apples, and you like bourbon, this is an absolute no brainer. I can already picture using this as an amplifier for fall bourbon cocktails. A maple and black walnut old fashioned, but with this as the bourbon base? I'm already drooling. And at $30, you'd be hard pressed to find a higher quality bourbon for cocktails. Color me beyond impressed.
What's the deal?: Copper & Kings has been producing American brandy since 2014. They have always aged their brandy in ex-bourbon casks, so for them to flip the script and release a bourbon aged in their brandy is a beautiful thing. And to make it such a good value? This is a monster from Louisville. You can grab this bourbon and their apple brandy for less than a standard bourbon release.
