Age: 6 years
Nose: ripe green apple, apple tart, golden berry, caramel sauce, floral tea, light ginger spice
Palate: it's no surprise that the fruitier aspects follow through to the palate, but the spice and floral ramps way up on the mid to back palate, there's some tangy tartness that tastes like a bite into an apple off the orchard tree
Finish: medium length with sweet and slightly tart apple
Rating: Buy it (Out of Hoard, Buy, Try, Pass)
Thoughts: This is quite literally a perfect starter apple brandy to explore the category or use in cocktails. The value here is once again insane from the newly rebranded Copper & Kings. If you've even been remotely curious about apple brandy or Calvados (French apple and sometimes pear brandy), you have nothing to lose for a whopping $25. Also, I LOVE apple brandy in cocktails, especially in the Fall. This will be a forever staple on my bar cart. I don't need backups necessarily, but when I run out, it won't take me long to get another. And they ship nationally from their site, so it's ridiculously easy.
What's the Deal?: If you go to your local liquor store and look for an apple brandy, there MIGHT be one decent option on the shelf, Lairds. Now you have a second option, at a higher age, and a lower price point. Not to mention it's just damn good. Cocktails that use apple brandy are a beautiful thing, but price and availability have made it difficult to make those cocktails an option. Now you can get cheap, but great, apple brandy shipped right to your door via Copper & Kings website. This is a game changer. Fall just got better.
