MSRP: $90
Mash: 100% San Luis Valley Rye
Proof: 146.2 Age: 11 Years 3 Months
Nose: cherry cola, leather, plum, a hint of earthy rye grain, soft herbal tea, butterscotch sweetness, fresh cedar
Palate: ethanol is definitely present, but so is rich, dark, deep and brooding flavor. Leather and old barn wood dominate the initial punch, followed by petrichor, tobacco, espresso, and a hint of that butterscotch
Finish: nice long finish of leather, espresso, oak and petrichor. It's beautiful and earth forward.
Rating: Hoard it (Out of Hoard, Buy, Try, Pass)
Thoughts: I am over the moon with how incredible and dark this rye is. If this is a marker for what double digit aged stated Laws rye is capable of, then the world needs more of it. This is so different from Indiana or Kentucky rye, it is its own animal. And what a beautiful thing it is. It's evident that it is a rye over a bourbon, but there is still some really nice fruit and sweet notes that aren't always present in a rye. Overall this is just a dark and intense whiskey. If you like a strong and brooding pour with deep complexity... This is it.
