Mash: a blend of straight bourbons from all 50 states

Age: 2-10 years

Nose: a cohesive rush of berry sweetness greets you, raspberries, strawberries and pear, it's joined by pastry dough, fig, marshmallow and molasses, all of this decadent sweetness is met with just a hint of sawdust and tobacco earthiness 

Palate: the sweetness is still present, but stays only on the front of the palate, it is quickly replaced with waves of spice and earthy notes, soft leather, nutmeg, clove, tobacco, and pepper. Despite the insane makeup, this is surprisingly cohesive and absolutely delicious 

Finish: medium long finish of plum, blueberry and nutmeg

Rating: Hoard it (Out of Hoard, Buy, Try, Pass)

Thoughts: I honestly am shocked with how balanced and excellent this pour is. Don't get it twisted, I have full faith in Nora and Adam at Lost Lantern, but blending bourbon from all 50 states without it tasting muddy is an insane undertaking. And they absolutely crushed it. I've had blends from a single distillery that tasted muddy. Everything about this pour is so well crafted and balanced. I can not express enough how impressed I am by this bottle. Get two before people catch on. 

What's the Deal?: Lost Lantern has been collecting barrels from all across the United States for their independent bottling, inspired heavily by European brands that operate similarly. Disclosing as much information as possible, and highlighting the actual distillery front and center on every bottle. They started venturing into blends with a few different releases, namely the Far Flung series, which combines whiskey from a few different distilleries that have typically been highlighted within the last batch of single barrel releases. However, this release takes this idea to the absolute extreme by combining straight bourbon from every single state in the United States.
