MSRP: $139.99
Mash: undisclosed high-rye
Proof: 112.8 Age: NAS
Nose: 100% dark chocolate, damp earth, dried tobacco, old charred oak, honey simple syrup, there's a dark fruity aspect that I can't quite place, maybe dried fig?
Palate: stewed cherry and plum, heavily charred oak, aged leather, graham cracker, subtle molasses, an oak laden rye spice washes over the back of the palate
Finish: old leather and oak linger with just a hint of that cherry for a nice long finish
Rating: Hoard it (Out of Hoard, Buy, Try, Pass)
Thoughts: If you don't love oak, this is not the pour for you. But if you like a heavy, dark, and earth forward pour... This will rock your world. It is such a rich and powerful pour. It almost feels as if you took a cola syrup, put it in a heavy char oak barrel, put that barrel in an old tobacco barn, and then used it as a simple syrup to make a rye old fashioned with Peerless rye and a dark cherry. I'd be curious how this would taste over ice, but I don't want to change anything I'm experiencing. The oily mouthfeel only adds to how good this bottle is. Don't skip out on a Peerless Double oaked rye single barrel, and definitely don't skip this Burlington one.
