MSRP: $139.99
Mash: 75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley
Proof: 117.6
Age: 9 Years
Nose: maple oatmeal, raspberry, plum, red currant jam, rose water, fresh leather, fresh bread yeast
Palate: the fruitiness immediately comes over to the palate, joined with a tannic woodsy marshmallow type note, leather and herbal tea
Finish: nice long woodsy finish coupled with a soft sweetness
Rating: Hoard it (Out of Hoard, Buy, Try, Pass)
Thoughts: This is a wildly fascinating pour. Both the nose and palate layer in waves of fruit mingled with a sugary sweetness. It's amazing what kind of impact oak can have on a pour. This particular barrel was aged in cooperage from Seguin Moreau. Seguin Moreau is known for making barrels to age wine, but on occasion have been used to fill barrel deficits in the whiskey world. Although pretty uncommon, I hope more of these barrels start to surface. It's a very interesting ride and I'd be curious to see how they all stack up against each other.
