MSRP: $225
Mash: Combination of first 4 mashes ever distilled at Tamworth
Proof: 100 Age: 10 Years
Nose: wildly unique. Immediately this is black tea and an incredibly farm-y note. It's not grainy nor youthful, but instead like walking into a horse barn on a rainy day. I would have guessed this was a unique scotch before thinking it was an American rye. Underneath that farm aspect comes bright red cherries and English biscuits
Palate: the farm-y aspect is still here but takes more of a backseat. Much more evident are Asian pear, nougat, sugar peas, molasses, and some subtle spice I cant quite place
Finish: surprisingly long finish for a bottled in bond that presents with the sugar pea green/sweetness and hints of oak tannin
Rating: Try it (Out of Hoard, Buy, Try, Pass)
Thoughts: I absolutely love how incredibly unique and strange this rye is. It presents so much closer to a scotch than anything else. If you were to tell me this was an unpeated Islay, I would believe you. This is a fun piece of NH history that pushes boundaries for what a double digit aged American whiskey can accomplish. But I also immediately recognize that this will not be for everyone. This is a pour you save for flavor curious whiskey nerds that want to push their palate. It's something you use to show off the range of American whiskey. It is NOT something you pour for your buddy that just paid $200+ for Eagle Rare 12 year.
